Parents are always proud of their kids’ talents and achievements. Nothing beats seeing your little one playing a complicated piano piece or gracefully dancing to a ballet number. This is why I’m starting my own kids early in their own journey of music and art. I try to make it fun and creative with them so they can get the most from these activities and learn a lot.

One fine evening, our little Adie (who’s growing up fast as an active and energetic kid) entertained us with a mini concert. He delighted us by singing three songs – one each for Czech, English and Filipino languages. The English song was “Twinkle twinkle, little star” which we all know so dearly as kids. The Filipino song was “Bahay Kubo” which is about living a simple life in a farm with different varieties of veggies planted in the backyard.

December 21st, 2011Youtube fanatics

My kids prefer the PC over TV, that’s why we’ve given up our cable subscription coz they’d rather watch their favorite kiddie movies and music videos from Youtube. There are a lot of cool music videos (even educational ones) which they love to sing or dance along. Adie especially likes music and gets bored with kid shows that are all blah, blah, blah.  Thanks to youtube downloader, I can have copies of their favorites saved in our hard drive. Current video faves of the kids are from Tutitu, Super Simple Songs and Mother Goose Club channels. User nay1115 also have nice videos which Caity and Adie recently discovered. Now my head is filled with silly kids’ songs… “Daddy Finger, Daddy Finger, where are you? Here I am, here I am. How do you do?”    “One little calf is sitting on a hot pot, bursting into tears. Help, mom! Help, mom! Oh my butt is burning up.” The latter is actually my personal favorite coz I sing it with funny actions and expressions which sends the kids to fit of giggles!  We’re crazy like that.

March 7th, 2009kaleidoscope world

Even if I’m in Prague, the news about the death of Francis M still reached this side of the world. It’s a sad news. Listening and watching him sing “Kaleidoscope World” in the video which is one of my fave songs from this talented artist, made me want to cry… huhuhu…

So many faces, so many races
Different voices, different choices
Some are mad, while others laugh
Some live alone with no better half
Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse
Some are pure and some half-bred
Some are sober and some are wasted
Some are rich because of fate and
Some are poor with no food on their plate
Some stand out while others blend
Some are fat and stout while some are thin
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world

Some are great and some are few
Others lie while some tell the truth
Some say poems and some do sing
Others sing through their guitar strings
Some know it all while some act dumb
Let the bassline strum to the bang of the drum
Some can swim while some will sink
And some will find their minds and think
Others walk while others run
You can’t talk peace and have a gun
Some are hurt and start to cry
Don’t ask me how don’t ask me why
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most
written and performed by Francis M.
May he rest in peace!

Being the youngest in the brood of five, I grew up influenced by my sibling’s musical taste. Our eldest brother was a band member, playing the bass guitar. They would play the music of The Police in their gigs and concerts and in his room hangs posters of his favorite bands; one of these is The Police. So at a young age I was already familiar with The Police’ hits such as King of Pain, Roxanne, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, Don’t Stand So Close, De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da and with Every Breath You Take being one of my favorites.
