February 5th, 2011shrimp noodle salad

When I want to eat something healthy and spicy, I make this shrimp noodle salad which is actually a make over. I don’t know the exact ingredients and measurements of the sauce for this, so I just made up my own. All I remembered is that it has red chili pepper, fish sauce and fresh lemon juice.  I use my homemade sinamak for this and add fish sauce and lemon. This dish was inspired by the shrimp salad which the Thai woman made for me and a friend a few months back.  Since then, I’ve had made this recipe a countless times already.

I simply tossed the rice noodles (soaked in boiling water until they’re soft enough for eating) with the sauce, shrimp, the Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, onions and for a crunchy nutty taste, I added crushed peanuts to it.

It’s best to let it stay in the ref for sometime coz for the noodles to absorb the flavors.  And IMO, it’s best eaten when chilled.

October 30th, 2010a taste of thai

I had a long overdue birthday gift waiting to be claimed from Lilian which I didn’t know when I can have the time for it. It has been over a year! She has been reminding me, but /me scratches head… when???

Then last week she asked me if its okay for her to bring the therapist to our house. Whoa! Home service! That’s something special!

So finally the day came, she arrived together with the therapist, a Thai woman who turned out to be a good cook too. Before giving me the massage, she and Lilian busied themselves in the kitchen to cook a Thai food. I thought they will only make one dish, but weeee…. the Thai was a magician of some sort, coz she magically made 4 dishes in a span of two hours, or maybe less.

Unfortunately our other friends couldn’t come, so it was only the three of us who enjoyed the superb, delicious and spicy meal.

Awesome!

Then the traditional thai massage followed. Weeee! Lilian even watched over the kids while I laid down helplessly in the cushion pillows.

Thank you dear Lilian for bringing Thailand to our home that day! I immensely enjoyed it.

My angel for that day… Madame Lilian!

Parties can’t be complete without lots of food!

We recently had a sumptuous double birthday celebration for my friend A’s little boy, M and another friend F and food was overflowing. Here’s the proof:

So you think we need to buy phentermine or some diet pills after feasting on all this yummy stuff in front of us? Note that some prepared dishes were still in the kitchen and the ref, so that’s not all you see on the table. Thanks to friend A for inviting us to the party for filling our tummies with all that delicious food.  We even brought home more food. It was a fun-filled party indeed!

May 27th, 2010get well soon

Many of my friends are sick with colds these days; even my family isn’t spared from it. My two kids have already caught the virus since Monday, and M has started coughing just yesterday.

Anyway, the girls planned to ambush A’s places yesterday for lunch and today, at my place. But only L made it to A’s coz the rest of the girls were down with colds! That includes F whose celebrating her birthday on Saturday. Poor girls. I was thinking maybe F wouldn’t be well enough to go out today, so yesterday I made the binignit (aka ginataan in Tagalog) she was craving for to the max. :)

Instead of reading apidexin reviews and other diet articles (remember, I want to go on a diet!!! hehe), I was in the kitchen experimenting with this starchy and sweet comfort food famous to Filipinos during rainy days. After more than an hour of cooking, my work was done. Then it was time to get my dear friend’s verdict; if it tastes good or not.. Since she lives quite near from our place, I thought a special delivery of her favorite food would surprise her and would make her well. M was kind enough to play the role of a delivery man (with my little Caity), bringing the warm binignit to F’s house.

May 24th, 2010more pinoy pasalubong

Another pasalubong from my dear friend A, spanish style milkfish or bangus in can!

spicy bangus!

I actually asked her to buy the VMC brand, which is the product of my home province but A said she didn’t find it in the store where she shopped. Beggars can’t be choosers, so they say but I still think VMC is unbeatable in taste.  I was surprised when I opened the package from her and saw not just one, but five canned goods!

A also brought me Chizwiz sandwich spread which I have been craving for the longest time, and another canned product, the bangus in tausi beans (which wasn’t that yummy). :P Then I got to eat Nova, Piatos, Boy Bawang. Hehehe This month, it is Filipino food heaven for meee! :) Food trip to the max! Never mind if she didn’t give me some perfume or eye cream, or any beauty products for that matter, pinoy food is still the best pasalubong for us Filipinos who are far away from home!

May 2nd, 2010mmmmmm mc wrap!

Once in awhile, I reward myself with little pleasures such as junk food! I work hard, I believe I owe it to myself to get a treat too. But it’s nothing fancy and not even expensive. Not unless I indulge on it on a daily basis, then that’s a different story :) Anyway, the latest to score a high point in my list is the new McDonald’s Mc Wrap. I first tasted their Crispy Chicken Wrap which was similar to that of KFC but their sauce is yummy; there was a hint of Mediterranean flavor.

Crispy Chicken

After that first encounter, I was curious how the other Mc Wraps tasted. Once again, another Mc Wrap for me:

Classic Beef

It was more yummy than the crispy chicken, more juicy and mmmmmmm…. I want more!

The grilled chicken seems intriguing too, but I always eat chicken so I might skip the grilled chicken and go for beef next time!

Grilled Chicken

If you want to make me happy, just buy me a Mc Wrap.  It will make my day. :)

January 19th, 2010another nutritious herb

It does not only make dishes, soups and salads tastier, celery is also a good source of vitamins and minerals. It also contains active compounds known for cancer prevention and lowering bad cholesterol. Some might not like putting celery in their dishes but experienced cooks know how to mix it well with their recipes so that they come out tastier when this nutritious herb is included. For instance, my Aunt cooks yummy pork stew with cubes of carrots and bits of celery in it.

What’s for breakfast? I had this question to my friends before and received a mix of responses – rice with viand, bread and butter, fruits, etc. Others don’t eat breakfast at all which, I tell you, is not a healthy way to lose weight. One of them answered oatmeal and coffee. Quite a combination, don’t you think so?

January 12th, 2010tiramisu, anyone?

I bet those who love desserts would drool over the title. Well, that’s hubby’s new specialty, aside from the usual gingerbread which he can bake with eyes closed. Lol. Yep, hubby is not only a certified geek who’s very much into computers, gadgets, HDTV’s, and the latest techie stuff, he’s also into making yummy dessert. This is the tiramisu he baked for our New Year’s Eve dinner.

November 16th, 2009i love to eat =)

Yay! What a treat!
asianfood

I got those from the Thai Store in Prague that sells Asian food. It’s sad to see that their stocks are limited and dwindling. My friends are wondering why this is so when they should be stocking up plenty coz their Filipino market is already growing bigger. Huhuhuhu… they always don’t have supply of instant pancit canton, spring roll wrappers, and other favorite chips we Pinoys love to eat. Big sigh! But still I was fortunate that they have the glutinous rice this time coz I’ve been wanting to cook and eat Arroz ala Valenciana. And they also have Jasmine rice.  But they only two packs of 4.5 kilos. All this food binging can be blamed on my pregnancy. hehe Being pregnant is all about taking care of the baby and myself, and food is a major part of it. I’ll get back to worrying about losing weight, fat burners, and dieting once the baby is out. For now, let me enjoy eating!
