January 19th, 2010another nutritious herb
It does not only make dishes, soups and salads tastier, celery is also a good source of vitamins and minerals. It also contains active compounds known for cancer prevention and lowering bad cholesterol. Some might not like putting celery in their dishes but experienced cooks know how to mix it well with their recipes so that they come out tastier when this nutritious herb is included. For instance, my Aunt cooks yummy pork stew with cubes of carrots and bits of celery in it.
I’m sure Mom would like to include celery in her diet as this herb is also rich in sodium, an important mineral which she needs to maintain in her body. Mom takes extra salt regularly to avoid hyponatremia (low-sodium) which affected her many years ago. I’m glad she’s physically fit nowadays and not undergoing any cholesterol treatment or some other serious laboratory tests.
Anyway, those who are physically active or sports enthusiasts can make a unique concoction of energy drink with the juice of the celery due to its high sodium content. Sodium is one of the major minerals present in most commercially available energy drinks such as Gatorade. Celery juice, anyone?
