April 30th, 2009long week ahead

Tomorrow is a holiday in Czech Republic so that gives us an extra free day (aside from the usual weekend) to do whatever we want! Yipeee! As you may or may not know, the first of May celebrates the Labor’s Day which is observed in other countries too. However for Czechs, there’s another reason to celebrate and that’s the National Love Day. Couples especially young lovers go to Petrin Hill and kiss under the blooming Cherry trees while others lay flowers in Karel Hynek Mácha’s statue. Mácha was said to be a great Czech romantic poet who wrote the poem Máj (May) which is about the tragic love of two young people.

April 26th, 2009tuesdays with friends

Another week is coming! This Tuesday we’ll have another meeting with my girlfriends at Angie’s. It’s becoming a regular Tuesday event huh! Mga walay lingaw! Guess what’s bonding us together… FOOD!

This week’s featured dish is Pinakbet, an Ilocano specialty that’s popular all over the Philippines. It’s mainly a vegetable dish that includes squash, bitter melon, eggplant, tomato, okra and string beans cooked with bagoong. Would you believe we have squash and bitter melon here in Prague? That’s all because there are many Vietnamese in this part of the country who sells these rare vegetables in their stores.

Anyway, while we indulge in our favorite Filipino food and swap stories, the kids spend time playing with each other. Little C gets to interact with her own kind – the hybrids! =)

Here is a pic of the kids playing on the wood flooring:

April 24th, 2009stop, look and listen

It’s not difficult to respond to nature’s invitation – to stop, look, listen and admire its beauty on spring time. With the vibrant mix of colors around, one can not simply ignore life’s greatest works of art. The colorful flowers can stop you right on your tracks, even the plain yet beautiful daffodils by the roadside can be an eye-catcher; the lively chirping of the birds (which makes our little C crane her neck and turn to the source of the sound) and the green, green grass that temptingly beckons us to lie down on them and rest. They are all over and around us, just waiting for us to notice.

When you’re taking a walk or driving, take your eyes off from those cardboard displays for awhile and turn your attention to the beauty around you.

We ordered online a set of animal-designed kiddie table and chairs for little C more than 2 weeks ago. The color that we chose unfortunately ran out of stock that’s why the delivery was delayed but hopefully this week it will be here. I’m already excited for the little girl! We make do with her plastic toy box as her table and her pink piggy stool as chair for some time; it’s about time she has a proper furniture set where she can sit, color, write and do other creative activities.  I’m sure she will be thrilled coz whenever she sees chairs and table in play areas or in her doctor’s clinic, she would immediately sit on one of the chairs.

The family went to the Dendrological Garden at the municipality of Průhonice yesterday. Fortunately, this garden is only 8 kilometers away from our place. It can be 3 kilometers less if we use the highway, but we should have a sticker for that (which we didn’t have).

The idea was to bring little C to a wide open space where she can run freely. With 73 hectares of land area, this garden was an ideal location for that purpose. In fact if you have little children, it’s a perfect place for the whole family to unwind. The kids can exercise their tiny muscles by exploring and running around the area or sweat it out in the playground near the entrance while the adults can sit in the bench or on the meadow watching the lovely panorama before them. That’s what we did. We basked under the sun on top of a hilly slope overlooking the magnificent view of the lake while our daughter was playing within our view range.

This shot was taken from our resting spot.  Beautiful view, right?

But most of the time, little C loved exploring the bushes and what’s behind them.

Gathering woods
… =)

There are also lots of quite and private spots for a family picnic, either in a grassy land, under the trees or beside a pond. What I love about this place is that bicycles and dogs aren’t allowed so you don’t have to worry about your children being hit by cyclists or stepping into poops.

Sitting by the pretty lake all day can be a good stress-reliever.

Awesome!

An added treat for your eyes…. beautiful tulips!

Happy Easter everyone!

On Friday we brought little C to her pediatrician because of her runny nose and cough. The doctor said it was nothing to worry about which was a relief coz little C had these for couple of weeks already. The pediatrician prescribed two medicines which should hasten our girl’s recovery.

I on the other hand has probably been infected with little C’s virus coz I’m coughing a lot lately. Yesterday I was feeling sick again like I have a fever sans the high body temperature. M took care of the little girl while I stayed in bed most of the day. It was sooo nice to rest without somebody disturbing me – just what I needed! And it’s also a comfort to have M back home; helping me out with many things.

I hope I’ll be better soon coz it’s annoying not to be on a tip top condition on a long weekend and on days with warm sunny weather. Well at least it’s a holiday tomorrow; one more entire day to spend with the family! I’m definitely not gonna waste it.

Walking on this path on a Friday morning…

Such a breathtaking view, right?  It’s tempting to go out on a such a fine day like that; just like how tempting it is to buy clothes, shoes or sexy bustiers on sale.  According to my source, tomorrow will be another warm day with plenty of sun! Yipeee!

April 9th, 2009a day in zoo praha

We went to the zoo yesterday as a treat for our little girl. She’s fond of animals and I know she’ll really be happy to see (the rest of) them in real. She has been seeing them only in videos and books; it was time she meets the creatures personally!

Colorful flamingos.

As expected, the little girl had the grandest time. She was delighted to see the animals especially the monkeys, the bears and the giraffes.

Polar bears!

She had the most fun in the children’s zoo where it is allowed to go inside the fenced yard and interact with the domesticated animals such as chickens, pigs and rabbits. She enjoyed fondling and chasing the goats there. The other children had fun feeding the goats with low-calorie granules which they bought at the slot machines. We could have stayed there longer but the zoo closes at 6pm and we even went out past closing time.

The Prague Zoo or Zoo Praha is one of the best places parents can bring their kids for a day of fun – with the children’s play area, the children’s zoo and the various animals around, they’ll never run out of things to see and do. It houses 5,345 animals with 674 species as of December 31, 2008 and it was named as the 7th best zoo in the world by Forbes Magazine in February 2008.

April 9th, 2009home safety

Everyday we hear horrible crimes occurring anywhere even in quite residential suburbs where it’s not easy for strangers to enter the guarded entrance without a pass, murders or burglaries still happen!

The best thing for homeowners to prevent break-ins to their houses is to install home security system. By installing these devices, you are ensured that your loved ones and even your personal possessions will be safe and secure. For a small amount of money, you can get ADT home security systems to do the job for you. You can choose between basic burglary package which includes burglary monitoring and fire safety monitoring; and the expanded package which includes burglary monitoring, fire safety monitoring, cellular backup and critical condition.

Nothing is more valuable than being safe inside your own home and having a peace of mind. It’s better to act now than be sorry later.

I can’t seem to get enough of how Koreans match their clothing with their partners. But do you know that the trend doesn’t end with couples alone? It has branched out to families! Isn’t it cute to see the whole family wear similar clothing?

Okay as long as the children are still babies or toddlers, I guess it’s cute but once they’re old, they’d look like a sport team if they all wear the same outfit. =) And I’m sure once the kids are old enough to choose their own clothes, I think parents will have a hard time dressing them up the way they want them to.
