July was one hectic month for me. I’ve got parties to attend here and there and there are more to come in the next few weeks. But since parties are synonymous to “food-binging”, I might turn down future invitations so I won’t indulge in calorific foods. Or I might attend and just satisfy myself with veggies and fruits. Ha! Anyway, these were the July parties I’ve been to in a nutshell:
July 14 – Dad’s birthday celebration. We had dinner at his house.
July 20 –An overnight barbeque party at Jirka and Lilian’s summer cottage at Lipence.

Dobry den! (Good day!)
M just drove me home from our hospital appointment. I’ve never seen such great number of preggy women before, all converging in one place in different shapes and sizes. I think we were about 15-20 there waiting at the doc’s clinic. It was amusing.
During the check-up M wasn’t allowed inside the clinic so I had to use the few Czech words I know. I warned the doc and nurses with “nerozumim Czesky” (I don’t understand Czech). Thank God the doc speaks little English but the nurse doesn’t. It was still okay coz she was just telling me when is my next appointment. I was able to use “pomoc” (help) in getting up from the reclining examination chair. Kalingaw!
Anyway, since the doc was checking the baby by ultrasound, I took the chance in asking him if he can see what the gender of the baby is. He tried but told me it’s difficult to determine though he said that it’s probably a girl. I didn’t tell him that my OB thought so too. Please Lord, let it be a girl!
July 23 was the day we bought baby’s stuff - crib, mattress, towels, onesies, tops, shorts, feeding bottles, socks, caps, etc… We also bought the necessary things I’ll need to bring with me to the hospital for the delivery.
We arrived at Ikea a little past 8pm, shopped there till they closed at 10pm then transferred to Tesco. We could have stayed all night shopping at Tesco because they were open 24/7 but my legs were really tired and I was famished too! We ended our shopping almost 1am and stopped by (the ever-reliable) McDonald’s for some burgers and fries.
When we got home, M couldn’t contain his excitement and started assembling the crib even if it was already past 2 in the morning. zzzz
the crib!
July 12, Thursday was my last meeting with my OB. At 34 week of pregnancy, baby is now:
- 2 kilos in weight. Doc said if she gains 1.5 kilo more within 6 weeks, there’s a possibility that I’ll have C-section.
- has a heart rate of 133 bmp.
Doc couldn’t confirm if she’s really a girl coz of her position in my womb. But we’re positive that she’s a girl!
After a marathon of posts the other day the effect took its toll on me yesterday. I felt sleepy and sluggish in the morning. I told M that if he plans to come home for lunch, he has to prepare the food himself coz I don’t have the beef to do any household chores.
I waited till 12 noon, still no sign of him so I got up and prepared lunch. He arrived a little later with a not-so-good news. “Honey I’m not feeling well!” he muttered as he hurriedly grabbed a sweater from his closet. He was in fact shivering and was slightly feverish. My weariness faded in an instant as I took over the role of taking care of him. I advised him to stay at home and rest. But he can be stubborn, he insisted he has to go back to the office coz he’s needed in the meeting. He promised to return home if the fever persists.
He returned all right but after more than 2 hours, in time to drive me to my doctor’s appointment which was scheduled at 4:45pm. After that I thought we can drive home and he can finally rest but no, he has to go back to the office for his notebook and some unfinished work which would take about 30 minutes max. So he dropped me at home and drove back to the work. Right, he’s like a tennis ball… bouncing from one place to another!

I’m amazed at myself today. When there are times I complain that I’m such a lazy bug, today is totally different. I’m so full of life and energy!!! As of this writing I was already able to write 12 posts not including this one. And I still plan to write more later. Oh okay, count in yesterday too with 10 posts and at night I still had the zest in helping my mom with her blog. I like it when I’m productive. Perhaps it’s my body’s way of keeping my mind off from thinking about my upcoming delivery.
M has always wanted our first child to be a girl. He probably had enough hanging out with guys since he was a kid. He grew up with a younger brother. His school friends were guys. His office mates and soccer mates are all guys too.
Few years ago he met my little niece Anzel who was then a toddler when he stopped by Thailand (where my sister and her family were living) before heading to India for a convention with my mom and bro. My niece who wouldn’t even go near my mom was stalking M around, spying on him and pestering him with “What thisssss? What thisss?” pointing to anything she sees just to get hubby’s attention. I think she was fascinated with M’s caucasian features. M was equally fascinated with her too; enamored with Anzel’s charm and wit, he willingly played with her. He told me he wants to have a child like that in the future.
When we learned that I was pregnant, it was M’s prayer that it will be a girl. I have to admit I didn’t have any gender preference at the beginning. But later on, I joined M in his prayer. So when our doc announced the possibility of my baby being a girl, we were both very happy.
And then came the time we have to decide on what name to give our baby. As I have posted in my other blog, I already came up with several names but when I presented them to M, he didn’t like any of those. Anyway, we’ve finally decided on a mutual choice. But we’re faced with a different dilemma now which is the spelling. He doesn’t like the way the name is spelled. And he said it sounds similar to the Japanese suicidal torpedo called kaiten. Duh! We’ll have to compromise again.
Can you guess what’s that name? Anybody who can guess will receive a huge sum of $. (kidding!)
