June 22nd, 2007what’s wrong with my eyes?
I’m so glad we’re in the internet age! Whenever I need to know something, it’s ever ready to answer the questions bothering me. Since yesterday, I’ve noticed that my vision is impaired. I thought it was because I lack sleep the other night. So last night I was off to bed at 11pm and got up at 8am this morning hoping that the long sleep would solve the problem. It didn’t! I’m having a hard time focusing my eyes still…my vision seems to go in all direction! Waaaa
As usual I consulted Uncle Google, my ever reliable info source. Thank God! Vision does change during pregnancy! Probably it was also triggered by the long duration I was wearing my contact lens last Wednesday. I didn’t have the slightest idea that pregnancy can have so many complications! It’s like everything unusual I feel is caused by pregnancy. Tsk tsk tsk

Daisy have you had your blood sugar tested or done the special glucose test for pregnant women that they do? During pregnancy you can be susceptible to gestational diabetes and diabetes can cause some odd vision problems. Have you been more thirsty than usual lately? Peeing a lot (well pregnancy does that one too!)?
If your eyes are still acting funny it might be worth calling your doctor and going in for a check up. Write your symptoms down so you won’t forget to discuss them!

Yep, they’ve taken blood samples already. The doc told me that if there’s something wrong, they’ll call me ASAP. So far I didn’t hear from them. So I guess I’m okay? Every symptoms I tell my doc always gets a “that’s common for pregnant woman” answer from him. It has occured only later to me that I should’ve gotten myself a woman doctor (preferably one who has undergone being pregnant)who can understand and relate to my feelings more
than a guy doctor. What do you think? But it also helped that he’s being calm and cool about it, I don’t get to feel nervous or worried.
As to my eye sight, it’s okay now. I think it happened just for two days. I’ve always been a water-drinker. It’s funny coz when I get up to pee at night and early morning, I also head to the kitchen to drink water. So it’s like a never-ending cycle of water coming in and out of me.
Yey! Thanks Tricia! It’s great to have you talk to me about these things… I almost forgot you’re a nurse! The internet has been my medical adviser for the past months. Any more suggestions for my last month?

It does actually…. I’ve been wearing eyeglasses for more than a decade now but I had this uneasy feeling again while I was pregnant. I had consulted my Opto and she said that this happens during pregnancy, but she wouldn’t recommend of changing my eyeglasses coz it’ll be a waste of money.
Our vision grade tends to go up and down during pregnancy and could even get worse if you have an astigmatism, which I do.

hi dr. tes!
when that incident happened, I was about 7 months pregnant. I was told I have low blood pressure. On our last check-up my BP was 100/70.
that saturday afternoon inside the car, all i can see was grey and blurry like I’ll pass out. after awhile everything was so bright. yep more like somebody was flashing bright lights at me.
my doc also said it’s normal for a person w/ low BP. is it?
thanks for the concern!

did an eye doctor see you ? i would recommend that you see one if you havent pa. sometimes a pregnant woman with vision problems may have retinal detachment almost usually due to preeclampsia but not limited to. better be on the safe side, kay you have to push ra ba when you deliver, exerting much effort unless, you’re deliving by C section. or u have delivered already?
